The Social Change sampler came about to give everyone a voice. No particular issue was given as example and all submissions were encouraged to give their words and messages a vehicle to get to the world. From the nearly 800 submissions, the top 36 have been posted on the magazine's website and readers, friends and fans of the artists or anyone interested in have their own issues given a forum are encouraged to vote. The top 25 votes will join forces with like minded artists who have already submitted tracks for the sampler. James McMurtry, Christine Ohlman, Jason & The Scorchers, The Boxmasters, Chip Taylor and Kasey Anderson have all graciously given their songs for the release.
Voting will continue through April 14, 2010 and the sampler will be released on April 15, 2010. To receive the sampler for download, to cast a vote or to simply catch up on the news, music and lifestyle of the Roots music community, visit the magazine's website.
About The Alternate Root
The Alternate Root covers all things roots. The online magazine seeks to expand the Roots banner to include Americana, Blues, Folk, Roots/Rock, R&B, Indie Rock, Jam Band and all other genres that fit into that organic set-up. Music in these genres gets moved aside to make way for popular trends and The Alternate Root came into being to make sure that does not happen anymore. The magazine has a six week release cycle that is complemented by weekly music reviews, artists profiles and updates on the Americana music chart activity. The weekly features offer free, legal downloads and insight into the artists whose passion and songs need to be heard. The Alternate Root television series can be viewed from the website as well.
